mClinica’s SnapRx platform wins Award at the World Government Summit

DUBAI, February 12, 2019 – mClinica was awarded the Best m-Government Service Award at this year’s World Government Summit in the United Arab Emirates. The SnapRx platform, developed by mClinica, won out of over 4,000 applications from more than 80 countries. The adjudication panel representing the Summit recognized the transformational impact of SnapRx, which provides public health data and analytics from over 100 million patients whose data was previously unavailable.

SnapRx is a proprietary app that uses artificial intelligence to seamlessly generate health data from prescriptions in real time. Pharmacists use the app to take a photo of their patients’ prescriptions using their mobile phone cameras. The app then digitizes the information, which is sent in real time to a cloud database that can be analyzed by mClinica’s data scientists, government researchers, and others.

mClinica worked closely with the Department of Health Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the Philippines to develop a white-labeled version of SnapRx called the Electronic Drug Safety System (eDSS) to better understand the way that people use medicine in the country. After a successful pilot, on June 27, 2018, FDA Director General Nela Charade Puno signed the policy “Guidelines for the Use of the Electronic Drug Safety System (eDSS)” mandating the use of the eDSS in every pharmacy in the country. mClinica will generate in real time a data set of about 23 million prescriptions per month across the Philippines – a big data project of unprecedented scale in an emerging market.

mClinica is currently exploring similar projects in the region and has been approached by several governments as far as Africa and the Middle East to implement their platform. mClinica’s founder and CEO, Farouk Meralli, said, “SnapRx creates national health information systems in a matter of months – not years. The world has taken notice of what’s happening here at the FDA Philippines. We realize that other governments are scrambling to onboard such a solution because today’s healthcare challenges cannot wait.”

The Annual Gathering of the World Government Summit, held in February in Dubai, hosts over 4000 world leaders, international organizations’ representatives, and experts from over 140 countries. This year’s speakers featured Christine Lagarde, Arianna Huffington and Paul Kagame among others.
